Announcement 002

Hello, TSC! We're having a great start so far, and I'm excited that we're going so well!

Many of you have noticed a lot of the cool features that Jcink offers. They have some great options! Today, I'm adding a new one - custom BBCode. Since doHTML is tricky and I know that some people really enjoy posting templates without wanting the hassle of finding one or figuring it out, this basically gives us the opportunity to have a few simple ones available. You obviously don't have to use them by any means, but now you have the option to use one if you want!

How this works is when you're posting, you can click the "t1," "t2," etc. buttons that will now appear in the posting buttons after the "Quote," "Code," and "List" ones above the post input section. Just like with the other BBCode stuff, you simply put your regular thread stuff in between the [t1*][/t1*] tags (without the *s). I'm going to add a few posts after this one just to show you what each template looks like, as well as a couple of little notes on their uses.

Template 1 just has justified text and some varied borders. It is in a button called "T1". All you need to do is click it (or use the proper BBCode), then put your text like normal within. You can use other regular coding like any other post as well, like bolding, coloring, etc.

Here is an example:

The figure stepped forward and pushed back the hood of their coat. The dim street lights revealed a woman with bright red hair and determined, but weary, eyes. She had her hands up in the air, which came across to Gwen as a defensive move. She obviously was curious enough to stay, for whatever reason, but still, she looked ready to pivot and run away.

Gwen glanced down at the body of the dead Weevil. Unfortunately, it was obscured enough, being both face-down and in shadow, that it didn’t necessarily look like a savage alien creature. Great. This woman might think that she just killed a person – possibly a perfectly innocent civilian. Or maybe she had seen the Weevil already, and then that was another problem entirely. Either way, there was a third party involved now, and Gwen hadn’t had to deal with this herself before. She was going to have to be careful.

She realized her gun was still in her hand and that it might be part of the reason the other woman was being so cautious. Gwen raised her hands in a similar way, showing that she wasn’t dangerous – at least to her. She reached behind her and tucked the gun in the back of her trousers at the small of her back. She took a slow step forward, trying as she could to show that she wasn’t meaning the woman harm.

“Former PC Gwen Cooper,” she called, hoping her affiliation with the police would possibly help the situation. “Torchwood. Special ops.” She glanced around, trying to see if there was another person with this woman. She didn’t see anyone, but there were plenty of dark places to hide. She looked back. She had a feeling this woman was on her own. Hadn’t she, herself, once gone after Torchwood? She remembered seeing them utilize the Resurrection Gauntlet, testing it on recently deceased victims of crimes. Her own first Weevil had been interesting; she had thought the thing was some freak with a mask – until it bit into the neck of an unsuspecting victim. And when she had finally discovered the Hub, Jack had shown her around.

Before he had retconned her, that is. Fortunately (or unfortunately, however you saw it), the pill wasn’t enough of a match for Gwen’s determination.

“This is a crime scene,” she continued cautiously, trying to gauge the woman’s reaction. She took a few more steps forward, trying to close the distance between them, but trying not to make it look like she was going to attack the other woman or anything. A sudden thought struck her. Had she been another victim of the Weevil? Perhaps it had almost attacked her before Gwen got to that group. “Are you hurt?”

Template 2 is slightly more complicated, because it offers you the ability to put in a picture at the top. When you click to use it (the button is "t2"), it will look like this without the *s: [*T2=x][/T2*] . The "x" is where you put a link for your image. Your post, like before, goes between the two tags. You can use a static image or a gif or whatever, as long as it's not wider than 500px.

Here is an example:

Template 3 works in a similar way to Template 2, in that it has two things for you to fill in. The first, again where the 'x' is in the tag, is for lyrics, a phrase, or whatever other words you'd like. Within the opening and closing tags is where you put the post.

Here is an example:

YOU'VE LOST WHAT IT MEANS TO BE HUMAN
It was like some twisted game, that much was easy to tell. Gwen was positive, at this point, that there was more to Vidina than a young woman from London who had missed a date and happened upon a Weevil attack. Yes, Vidina was being just as cautious as Gwen, trying not to give away too much. She even had the feeling that the whole ‘young, vulnerable woman’ bit was further from the truth than that of a normal woman her age. Yes, young women tended to be on the defensive, but Vidina was probably decently capable at taking care of herself.

The reasons for which made Gwen quite interested.

She had a feeling that her question about ‘holding up’ was giving Vidina a bit of a time, coming up with an answer. A simple question, but it could be construed in different ways. She just wanted some sort of hint as to what Vidina was doing here, or perhaps an idea of what made the other woman tick. Had she been after something? Happening upon the Weevil was feeling less and less a coincidental event.

Vidina’s answer only furthered Gwen’s frustrations. So she believed there were most likely aliens out there. Gwen had realized the logic in such an idea herself before discovering Torchwood. Perhaps the greater shock had been the fact that Earth had so many encounters with them that the greater population usually missed (or explained away by ridiculous circumstances). Was that the same position that Vidina took? She said she didn’t want to sign up, and Gwen smirked a bit. “Understandable,” she replied with a dismissing wave of her hand. She took a long sip of her drink, almost reaching the end of the pint.

There was a way to really get down to business. Gwen still had her comm in her ear, and she could get someone back at the Hub to look up the woman and contact Gwen back with what they found. With all their methods of searching, she could figure out just who was this Vidina Villers. Still, she wanted to try a bit more on her own. She needed to make sure that Vidina wouldn’t go off and spill her guts in some public fashion. At this point, Jack would have probably told her to eat their losses, slip her the retcon, and go on their way. Gwen hated that side of Torchwood, though. Maybe she should try to personable side of things.

Gwen took the last sip of her drink, then leaned back forward to talk over the noise at Vidina again. “You know,” she said, giving her a concerned look, “This is the kind of thing we have to keep under wraps. Not my rules, and I know, it’s hard.” She shook her head. “You can’t afford to talk to anyone about this – no family, friends, parents, siblings, anyone.”

I have some new templates for you to use!

Template 4 works the same as Template 2. It offers you the ability to put in a picture at the top. When you click to use it (the button is "t4"), the "x" is where you put a link for your image. Your post, goes between the two tags. You can use a static image or a gif or whatever, and I suggest using something 500px wide.

Here is an example:

Templates 5 and 6 work the same as Templates 2 and 4. They offer you the ability to put in a picture at the top of any size, as they'll only take out the middle 200x200. (It will also enlarge if needed - but you might have to play with your images to see if they look right). When you click to use one of them (the button is "t5" for lighter, "t6" for darker), the "x" is where you put a link for your image. Your post, goes between the two tags.

Here are the examples:

Template 7 is simple-looking, but it has two options - one with picture, one without. It works the same as Template 3; when you use the 'T7' button, the "x" is where you put your quote, lyric, whatever. Your post, goes between the two tags. If you would like to use a picture, simply use the [*align=center] and [*img] tags right above the "T7" post stuff (I have a 500px-wide gif).

Here are two examples, the first without a picture, the second with one:
